Why More Music/Mixes?

Is music akin to food? I eat every day, but must eat again tomorrow (different food, obviously - I cannot eat what was consumed yesterday).

Why continuously purchase more music? I certainly can listen to what I listened to yesterday (even rearrange it according to my tastes, via a mix).

Yet, until now, I've rarely been satisfied merely listening to mixes and have been taken up in making more mixes (and more mixes).

Over the Christmas holiday I took pause to listen to several from the last 2 years and, the thought occured to me that I really don't need any more (as I haven't the time to listen to all I already have).

Hmmm...this may require more thought and a delving into the psychology of HABIT (more to follow...)

1/6/05: Samuel Johnson said the chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they're too strong to be broken. New habits are not easily formed (average time span to make/break new/old habits: 21 days).

Sot4 (Sign of the 4)

Sign of the 4...interesting project (with fabulous final output/product):

1 2 3 4

More on these fellas...later!

2005 Projects

All mixes posted in 2005 were burned between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve, 2004. It was important to me that all mix/creative-work be contained within calendar year '04, because there are no plans for new mix projects in 2005:

e l e m e n t s, a 2 part Jazz offering (ha! with a contest that no-one has won) was 1st out of the New Year's box, posting 1/1 and 1/2 respectively.

Next up, 'u n c l a r i t y' an ether-rock/experimental mix which delves into old vinyl as its source material (1/3= wax trax). Posts approximately 1/7-9/05

And finally, 'vaporous', an core-driven ambient mix centering around artists I've come to know a bit via Ambient Landscape; and posting mid January.

(Damn that mix-monkey ;~])

Summing up 2004's Mixes

Hmmm...almost 3 years between posts; well THIS Blog's moving right along! 2004 saw the creation, and end, of several series:

deppth (techno/experimental);

[ minML ] (microsound);

fu_shun (jazz);

process (ambient/microsound); and

data.obscura (predominantly ambient, with some classical, experimental & piano solo work as well) which ran 11 volumes on 12 discs. The d.o. series' discs are amongst my favorite mixes and the ones I personally use for computing, napping, working out and study/reading backdrops.
